AIRCRAFT LEASING
Over the years Tarom leased all of their 1-11 series 500 aircraft out to other operators. Without going into too much detail, this started in the mid 1980s with Lauda Air being the first customer in March 1985. Although British Aerospace had closed their Hurn factory in 1984 Lovaux took over several of the hangars to continue with some 1-11 work which explains why so many 1-11s came back to Hurn to be prepared for their leases. This work, mostly linked to the Tarom leases, continued for a number of years. Later on Romavia leased a number of their 1-11s to other airlines.
